Development
This game was the resulting project made from my participation in the Full-Time Game Dev game jam hosted by Thomas brush. Initially, upon seeing this jam theme, "The Golden Rule", I had no idea where to even begin. After some brainstorming, I came up with several game concepts and eventually settled on an idea where the player would need to punch an enemy in the hopes that this foe would punch back in order to progress through the level. With this idea, I began the programming marathon. Despite encountering several challenges, I soon put together my first level that used this mechanic and soon after submitted my project to the jam page. Ultimately, from this experience, I greatly learned that I needed to manage my time more productively as I was not able to complete as many levels as I wished I had for this project. Reflecting on the game jam as a whole, I am truly grateful to have participated as this was a really fun and enjoyable experience especially because I was able to play other people's games, see how they interpreted the theme, and receive feedback on my own game.

Primary Mechanics:
Punch Back is a speedrunning game in which the player progresses throughout the level by punching and getting punched by the infamous pink rectangle.

Level Design
When creating the first level in Punch Back, I wanted to enhance the primary punching mechanic by introducing elements that required the player to strategize their punches and their movement to finish the level. These components include pressure plates that both the player and the enemy have to stand on, a moving platform inspired by Pico Park, that required both the player and the enemy to stand on in order to move, and a vertical wall that the player would have to use the force of the enemy's punch to scale.
Schedule
Punch Back was a thrilling experience as I had to work diligently to complete the project within the 48-hour deadline. Despite these challenges I faced, I really enjoyed the fast-paced development process. and this experience left me eager to participate in another game jam in the future, I just had to sleep first.
Jam Overview
The opportunity to receive feedback from reviewers who participated in the jam was an incredible experience and I hope to participate in more game jams in the future to continue improving my skills and knowledge.
